A good Hook can surprise your opponent with a strong hit from the side, around their guard. For your lead hook, also known as your “3”, from stance, begin as if throwing a Jab straight out with your non-dominant hand and pausing halfway. From here, punch sharply inwards to hook, keeping your elbow out as you strike in to the right. Keep your hook at your eye or shoulder level to act as a block. To maximize the power of your Hook, dig the ball of your front foot into the ground as you flick the heel up along with the punch. Reset immediately, hands at your face, elbows tucked, and chin down. Repeat these motions with your opposite hand for a powerful rear Hook, also known as your “4.” The mechanics of the Hook will remain the same as you punch towards your opponents body. Always return to your Guard as soon as you land the strike!
