Learn Stance and Guard with Rob (2 Mins)
2m 39s
The Stance is the foundational position in boxing. Every movement starts here. Find your dominant hand, and step your opposite foot forward to stagger your stance. Both feet will face forward, angled slightly towards your dominant side. Find balance here, shifting your weight to the balls of your feet to make quick and agile movements. Your back heel will rarely touch the ground. Bounce back and forth in this stance, finding a groove. To add your Guard, make a fist with both hands and raise your arms above your head. Drop your hands to your chin and cheekbones, anchored at your face. Tilt your chin down, as if you’re looking through your eyebrows. Next, roll your shoulders forward and bring your dominant shoulder back to angle your body, create a smaller target, and hide your dominant power hand. Your fists should stay close to your face at cheekbone level with your elbows tucked in and chin down. Keep moving in this rhythm as you get comfortable with your Stance and Guard.
